I would believe you would have read at least somewhere about the miracle of oil pulling. It just appear to me I saw more post of oil pulling recently especially after I started my blog. Maybe is just google doing all this - haha...making feed appear in my browser......wonderful.
Anywho I was planning to share with you how I felt about oil pulling, but I was waiting to blast this after I had finished reading these lovely books on the subject before expressing my thoughts. Of cos I started this healthy routine for my own benefit as well as trying to convince my mom into this and therefore I tried to get the books from the library just to back me up.
I started doing oil pulling mainly because there was a tub of extra virgin coconut oil which my mom gladly bought home after going to some markets. Her thoughts was the good to use it for cooking - but we rarely cook............at home. Most of my reluctance in trying to rinse with oil in the morning was because, I would normally be so dry that I need to run for a cup of warm water or the loo in the morning. It takes a lot of strength to actually walk to the kitchen grab a spoon open the tub of coconut oil and take a teaspoon of the oil and try to swoosh in your mouth for 20mins. I had been starting since February this year and was able to continue daily, is not one of my good habits. You would think 20 mins is quite long for all of us, right? So during the 20mins I would wash my face while I still had coconut oil in my mouth. I would try to rinse it through my teeth and tongue but avoid swallowing.
I do cough the remains down the drain which the book indicates I should not because it would clog the drain. But I could not cough it up into a plastic bag given it would be so many bags to use - very environmental friendly person. So I need to find an alternative way - haven't had much thought as yet - let me know if you do.
The instant benefit I got was my teeth is instantly brighter, gums are pinky and glowing. Looks like a healthy signs. I would not say the whitening is too effective given I am a heavy tea drinker and coffee whenever I am at good cafes - so my teeth are prone to stains. It does make the stain less visible but not like I had my teeth whiten. I guess I never expected to have instant whitening effect but it does something good in my dental health, it just get rid of the overnight breadth. I do have very sensitive teeth and would bleed whenever I need to floss - after oil pulling it does really help to reduce the sensitivity of the gums.
I have serious migraines to a point I feel nausea, vomit and sensitive to strong lights. When it strikes I was stuck in bed for the day, I wouldn't able to crawl out of the bed to go to the kitchen to even get pills. It was terrible and I do not know if it is hormonal but it usually hovers before period or during period. I have to say the incident of migraines now is less likely, and even for headaches.
Period cramps, I do get frustrated a few weeks before the time which I think is PMS and it severely decreased the level of vulnerability after doing oil pulling. Cramps still exist the first 2 days but I was able to recover from period much quickly.
Neck pain, back pain and knee pain. I do have neck pain due to constant usage of computers. Back pain and knee pain are from previous injury plus some bad sitting postures. By performing oil pulling it reduces the pain and stress. My back was much better and able to walk further without feeling I need to go home.
Hair & lips - I did try to use it to wash my hair, it gives you instant shine. I do recommend it if your hair are very dull and needed an instant boost. Lips - if you follow my blog, I do have seriously dried cracked lips - I do use the remains on the spoon on my lips and my face each morning. A little massage on my face before washing my face keeps my skin smooth.
I am trying to get rid of an old wart at my foot by rubbing the residual. It is my latest project that gonna takes some time have it gone.
As I am trying to convince my mom to do it, she kinda refrain from it after first try. I guess the idea of swallowing oil is really the first barrier. One teaspoon is quite enough to avoid swallowing it down. I do have mucus coming up every morning, and does reduce instances of flu etc.
I will keep you posted but so far I see all the good things from this. I was at the extreme drinking the oil with warm water but was told it can make you fat. I don't know if it was true but I was only trying to boost my good cholesterol level as I was told I was on border line.
