As an asian brought up initially in HK and then Sydney, I would say I am more a tea drinker. However, I guess after going through study and work, most of us find coffee will do us some good at times in need (not to mention, V or Redbull - those that give us wings!).
I would say you can easily find good coffee in Sydney just around the corner of the neighbourhood or around CBD where you work. And such convenience is gone once I decided to move back to HK for more challenges, I guess this is part of the "culture shock" that most predecessors were talking about.
Besides our usual Starbucks, I would like to share some of the good coffee that I find in HK! First is Fuel coffee, located at IFC, Central or Landmark, Central somehow their mocha are amazing though a bit pricy but its worth it after a stressful day or before an important meeting! It is a place where I got my final interview for my job, so you kinda feel a special attachment to this place!
The second is Unar Coffee Company, which is located at Tai Hang as well as Star Ferry over on TST, Kowloon side of the pier. I find it amazing when I saw their second shop at the pier after watching Giselle ballet at the HK Cultural Centre, it feels like you seen an old friend or something.
If you ever had a chance to visit HK or you lived in HK, you should try these places or revisit them. I think its good to encourage these unique businesses and you feel so warm after such good coffees. If you have other good coffee places, I would luv to hear from you as well, happy sharing!
